Bieto is an artist who strongly believes that art is something alive, something that can change and evolve just as life that mixes together different circumstances just like Bieto's colours which are linked to sounds, smells and moods.
HELLO BIETO! TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOU, HOW DID YOUR CAREER AS AN ARTIST START?
I've always drawn a lot in my life. When I entered college, I also took a drama course, aiming to improve my expression in public. My undergraduate thesis was the staging of a musical piece by a great Brazilian artist. Immersed in experiences of light, sound, choreography and collective improvisation exercises.... I felt the urge to paint pictures that spoke to the scenes of the play.... I feel that this was the beginning.
WHAT IS YOUR MAIN INSPIRATION WHEN YOU REALISE YOUR ARTWORKS?
In essence I pursue life, to dilate the passage of life to broaden its reach. I like the idea of thinking that life is movement. I get inspired by the movements of life, the world, things... Sometimes I think about how the flavour spreads on the tongue and runs through my body until I feel the taste, at times I think about how vegetation spreads... and so I go.
YOUR ART AND CONSEQUENTLY YOUR WORKS ARE FULL OF DIFFERENT COLOURS AND SHADES. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THEM?
Colours are movements. I really like the idea of linking color and sound, color and temperature, color and smell, color and mood. So I try to keep myself as sensitive as possible to feel what the colours of each will (as desire) are.
WHAT ARE THE TECHNIQUES YOU USE WHEN YOU REALISE YOUR WORKS?
Overall I like to paint with acrylic paint, I really like to paint with spray.... and I also enjoy work with pens and derivations.
HOW WAS THE IDEA OF THIS “MOVING BRUSHSTROKES” BORN? HAVE YOU BEEN INSPIRED BY ANY ARTIST FROM THE PAST?
Although I really like the movement existing in impressionist painting, I was not directly inspired by any artist of the past. This brushstroke idea was born in a conversation with myself. Seeking to better understand what motivated my desire to paint, I understood that all the compositions of scenarios, scenes, characters were an excuse to investigate the movements: characters playing basketball or dancing, always looking to see the movement. So at a certain point I understood that I could focus on pure movement without worrying about representations anymore.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE TO YOUR AUDIENCE WITH YOUR ART?
I want to communicate that we are moving. That life is in motion. That the present is immediate. Let's move!
WHICH ONE IS YOUR MOST AMBITIOUS PROJECT?
My most ambitious project is to achieve synesthetic alignment of human sensory organs in a work of art.
ARE YOU WORKING ON SOMETHING NEW AT THE MOMENT?
Yes. I'm thinking about my next exhibition and at the moment investigating more about my painting's relationship with smell and taste.
