FROM 23 DECEMBER 2022 TO 12 FEBRUARY 2023, AFTER ROME AND PARIS EDITIONS, POP AIR ARRIVES IN MILAN. THE BALLOON MUSEUM'S INSTALLATIONS WILL BE HELD AT SUPERSTUDIO + IN VIA TORTONA 27.
18 ARTISTS AND 6 THOUSAND SQUARE METRES OPEN FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH AN EYE ON SOCIALS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The art of socialising through natural element like air trapped in biodegradable latex constructions of zoomorphic shapes offer an immersive experience
Eness is an Australian studio founded in 1997 that produces 3D projection mapping, LED art installations, public art sculptures, and inflatables. The team is made up of creatives from multiple artistic disciplines, including software engineers. You can admire and also get inside their creatures AIRSHIP ORCHESTRA in the first spacious exhibition hall. A collection of enormous beings without a precise identity clustered as in a large orchestral group arrived from a distant imaginary world that invites you to get closer, to walk through its spaces. They observe you in turn with their tiny LED eyes able to orient themselves
Then you pass through an obligatory path to KNOT by Cyril Lancelin, a unique inflatable sculpture without beginning or end bathed in red light and inspired by a knit knot. The French artist expresses a link between human body and architecture with his forms. In his creative career, which began between Paris and Los Angeles in the 1990s, he uses immersive sculptures, drawings, videos, and virtual experiences
The most immersive part of the exhibition is the large pool filled with small balls situated in an environment amplified by the mirrors on the walls and a ceiling of white clouds. During the light and sound performance, bright spheres descend from the ceiling, like an enormous moving circular chandelier; ambient and at times slightly strange sounds give the idea of a great sea in motion. This is HYPER COSMO by Hyper Studio founded in 2016 by Cristobal Baños and Diego Iglesias together with their team of web artists and designers
From immersion into the pool of white plastic spheres, you will pass through the misty atmosphere of a corridor to be walked into the light, feeling a shower of soap bubbles falling on your skin as if in a gentle, silent storm. You are inside QUIET STORM by Quiet Ensemble, a creative studio working with audiovisuals and light-sound installations. The studio was founded in 2009 by Fabio di Salvo and Bernardo Vercelli, focusing its research on the relationship between organic and artificial subjects, developing a particular sensitivity for the hidden or invisible aspects of our everyday life
The site-specific installation GIALLO 368 made by Penique Productions, a Barcelona-based artist collective founded in 2007, is a reflection on the contemporary practice of installation; in this case, the room is brought to its primary essence and flooded with monochromatic light
In NEVER ENDING STORY by the Roman architect and designer duo Lorenzo Pagliare and Gianmaria Zonfrillo, space loses its spatial references, and the game of mirrors and suspended objects leaves you mesmerised and wandering in an apparent infinity of serial repetitions
Domenico Rubino aka Rub Kandy presents his GINJOS, colourful ovule puppets with big, astonished eyes that let you shake, push or throw them around, while they will always regain their verticality
The inevitable selfie moments unleash visitors into a celebration of immersive photo shoots in the themed spaces on Balloon Street.
At the end of the exhibition, there is SILENUS, Max Streicher's installation of the large, pale white sleeping man, lying on his back, the only avowedly human figure of extra dimensions, constructed from the characteristic nylon fabric used for sails. This is an obligatory transition to the exit
The rhythmic sound of the air pumping through the giant, sleepy body suggests to us the ultimate reflection: for one hour and twenty minutes, we were able to touch and observe in amusement the air we breathe in every moment of our lives.
